Feast Matariki with Joseph Hullen and Giulio Sturla

Date & Time:
2.15pm, 25 June 2022

Tekapo Community Centre, 8 Aorangi Crescent, Takapō

Join Ngai Tahu's Joseph Hullen in the kitchen as he reconnects you to where your kai comes from and truly appreciate the incredible ingredients we grow, catch and make locally. Joseph will be supported by Giulio Sturla, founder of Eat New Zealand, owner of Mapu test kitchen and former NZ Chef of the Year.

This event is a collaboration with Eat New Zealand and Feast Matariki, a food movement dedicated to connecting people to our land through our kai.

Joseph Hullen:

Joseph Hullen (Ngāi Tūāhuriri/Ngāti Hinematua), was born and raised at Tuahiwi and Kaiapoi, has spent a lifetime gathering traditional kai and hearing stories about his hapū. He has a special interest in Mātauranga Māori and Tikanga Māori and how this knowledge helps us to better understand early land use in New Zealand and make better decisions about future land development. He is a hunter-gatherer, a fisherman, an explorer, a kaitiaki, a storyteller – and always he is Ngāi Tahu.

Giulio Sturla:

Born in Chile, Giulio has been living in New Zealand for 13 years. He quickly became established as one of the most relevant and influential chefs. Giulio is the founder and driving force of Eat New Zealand. In 2020 he opened Mapu, an experimental kitchen in Lyttelton where he is developing a new concept of dining experience, six people at a time.
